    Alamosa, Colorado?
    Question:
Anybody heard of it??? Is it nice??? Does it suck???

    Answer:
I actually live in Colorado and know people that live there in Alamosa, my husband was actually born there, we go to Monte Vista witch is really close to it like 20 mins away, but it is a small town, yes it is nice, I guess it depends on the type of person you are if you would think it is boring or not, but I don't think it sucks. Well when and if you go have fun, the weather is great this time of year, it isn't cold and it' s not too hot, and enjoy the views, they are beautiful.

salmonella outbreak in alamosa colorado, can we wash our clothes? everyone says dont do dishes but clothing?
    Question:
if we run the hot water and then air dry hot would it be safe to wash our clothing?

    Answer:
I'll be honest with you, I don't know the answer ... but I'm betting that I know why they say be careful about washing dishes, but say nothing about clothes. Well, we eat off the dishes, so the bacteria from the water can go from the plate or spoon into our mouths. The clothes go next to our skin, so not a direct way into our bodies. However, if it were me, I wouldn't wash my clothes, because I'd think the residue could seep into our skin. I could be way off about all this, but it's just me. Good luck. Maybe do a little research on the internet, you may find some answers. It seems if hot water wouldn't kill bacteria on dishes, then it wouldn't do it for clothes either. Good Luck, sorry for the hardship there in Colorado.

Which would be cheaper and more efficient in the end?
    Question:
I will be flying out to Alamosa, Colorado in early June. My father is currently in Florida, and he will be heading there as well. I'm currently in Detroit. So, if I fly by myself, I'll have to pay an extra $150 because I am a minor, ($75 a flight) and, I'll be switching planes not once, but twice, so that may be even more expensive. Also, I'll have to pay to get a state ID to fly by myself So, I'm wondering...if my dad has to fly to alamosa regardless, would it just be cheaper if he flies from florida to detroit, and then we both fly to alamosa?

    Answer:
I think you only have to pay the unaccompanied minor fee if you're under 13 or something, so maybe that's not an issue for you? It can vary by airline, so best to either search the airline's webpage FAQ, or phone them and ask what is the age and fee. Looks like ABQ and COS are closest to Alamosa, so be sure to check fares to both! Also, DEN might be worth the extra driving if fares there are cheaper.

    Careless Driving Ticket?
    Question:
I got into a car accident the other day down in Alamosa Colorado. Here's what happened.... I was driving down Main street and a woman two cars in front of me stopped to make a left hand turn. There was no turn lane, so she stopped in the middle of traffic. The car directly in front of me made a very abrupt stop. I instinctively slammed on my breaks, and the car didnt stop. It slowed down a very little bit, but didnt even leave skid marks. I ended up rear ending the car infront of me which pushed her into the car infront of her who was turning. No ones car was damaged but my own, and no one got hurt. The officer gave me a careless driving ticket even though I was only going 10mph, and someone was wrongfully blocking traffic. Would the Anti-Lock Breaks have anything to do with the reason that the car didnt stop? Should I take this all to court and see what happens or should I just pay the fine? If I pay the fine and eat the points, I loose my license. HELP!!!!!!!

    Answer:
You should always leave enough stopping distance between you and the car in front of you to come to a complete stop. You obviously did not. You will lose if you take this to court. Pay the fine and be done with it. Maybe have your brakes checked too, if in doubt.

wanting to make a trip to colorado springs in mid march.any must see drives or things to do?
    Question:
hope its not too cold for kids in mid march but its the only time we get to go.leaving mississippi to amarillo to alamosa and want to stop at great sand dunes park.denver is close to springs but dont know what to do there in mid march.springs has garden of gods, zoo, pikes peak, cave of winds, cliff dwellings.mostly i just want to do good at planning this and wow my family at beautifull scenery.just dont wanna miss out on fun while we there.only have 5 days to do whatever.we have never seen mountains or snow.hope my kids enjoy the sand dunes.thanks for any suggestions

    Answer:
You named the good things to see in the springs... but there are also great things in Denver. The museum& zoo are GREAT. The butterfly museum north of Denver is a kid favorite. See websites below. Hope the weather is decent. there may be tons of snow on the ground in co springs, but if not, a short drive up to Woodland Park will get you into snow soon. then sand dunes are great, but march is not really a good time to go...anyway they are near alamosa...a good 2 1/2 hr to 3 hr drive from springs IF the roads are clear....you would have to stay overnite in Alamosa. Might be better to stay in springs and Denver. Hope you have a great time.

Brightly flashing red, white, and blue "stars"?
    Question:
Several times over the last few years I have observed brightly flashing red/white/blue "stars" in the night sky. Previously I assumed they were airplanes, or possibly helicopters, but last night, October 17, 2008, I realized they probably are not. The following observations were made in the San Luis Valley of Colorado, about 15 miles south of Alamosa, and subsequently near Del Norte, 30 miles to the west. Here are the details: The first object was visible in the northeastern sky, at an altitude of about 30 degrees above the horizon, bearing about 60deg. We noticed it around 8:00 P.M. Later we noticed substantially similar objects bearing 180 and 300.. To the naked eye, the objects appeared to be very brightly twinkling stars, except that they appeared to move slightly, causing us to get out binoculars. Through binoculars, we could see that the star looked like a rotating beacon or strobe, brightly flashing in red, blue and white. We continued to watch the object, first steadying the binoculars on a fence post, and then mounting one pair on a tripod to get a steady view. Once we obtained a steady view, we could tell that the object was really not moving in relation to the horizon, and that over a period of half an hour or so, the stars had moved, but the object had not. My next thought was that we were seeing some sort of aerial navigation aid on a radio tower, however, I have checked the sectional aviation chart for the area. There is no high tower on the chart that matches the location. I remembered that in the past, the RAF, as a guest of the US, has done high altitude testing of Chinook helicopters in our area, but these tests are usually announced in the local media, and it seems unlikely that they would be testing three helicopters in widely dispersed areas, in three different areas, far from the airport where they normally base these tests. Having other committments, I broke off my observatons of the object to the north east, and as I was loading my car, I noticed the similar objects to the south and the north west. I made a 45 minute drive, arriving in Del Norte, about 40 miles away to the north west, and I was able to keep the north west flashing thing in view for most of my drive. Arriving in Del Norte around 10:00 P.M. I was able to again pick out the flashing object to the north west and the north east. The location where the southerly object would have been located, was obscured by trees and a low range of hills to the south. Again, the objects appeared about 30 degrees above the horizon, appeared to be stationary, persisted for more than two hours and remained visible in apparently the same location in the sky as I drove more than 45 miles. Again, the objects appeared to be very brightly flashing stars, flashing blue, red and white, almost as if a state patrol car, or some other vehicle equipped with a rotating beacon or strobe, was suspended in the sky with it's emergency flashers turned on. I have consulted my star atlas and they do not appear to match the location of any currently prominently visible bright stars. They also do not appear to rise and set. I find it hard to believe that satellites in stationary orbit would flash red white and blue, and to my knowledge, neither airplanes nor helicopters display flashing blue lights. I am also not aware of any commonly used aerial navigation aide or collission avoidance device. Any ideas?

    Answer:
Flashing white and red lights are usually aircraft or high towers. Flashing blue lights are usually law enforcement aircraft. Since you were relatively near Colorado Springs and didn't see any groups of Air Force aircraft being scrambled to intercept these objects, they were probably identified aircraft to local controllers. If you think there were celestial objects, go out tonight or tomorrow night at the same time and look in the same directions.

Kelly Bergen, 25, of Monte Vista, Colo. was killed when her Ford Focus was hit from behind by a potato truck driven by Oscar Martinez-Cruz, 27, of Monte Vista and then pushed into another potato truck being towed by a tractor. Martinez-Cruz was arrested and charged with careless driving causing death, driving a motor vehicle without a valid operator’s license and failure to present evidence of insurance. The operator of the second potato truck, Miguel Ramirez, 54, of Greeley, Colo. and the driver of the tractor, Bernardo Garcia, 55, of Hereford, Texas have not been charged in the accident. Martinez-Cruz is currently being held at the Alamosa County Detention Center on charges related to the accident. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Special Agent-in-Charge Ed Tolbert of the Alamosa ICE office, confirmed Wednesday that Martinez-Cruz is an undocumented Mexican national working in the U.S. illegally and the agency has placed a detainer hold on him. Colorado State Patrol Trooper Travis S. DePriest investigated the accident that happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday on County Lane 5 North, about one-tenth of a mile east of Alamosa County Road 102 South. According to the trooper’s report, all four vehicles were westbound on County Lane 5 North with Bergen’s Ford behind Ramirez’s potato truck that was being towed by the tractor driven by Garcia. As Bergen’s car approached the truck and tractor it was hit from behind by the truck driven by Martinez-Cruz and pushed 106 feet, rotating clockwise in front of Martinez-Cruz’s truck. Both the car and truck then slammed into the rear of the truck being towed and pushing it into the rear of the tractor. The tractor left the right side of the roadway and struck a power pole and came to rest in a field facing northwest. Bergen’s car came to rest in the westbound lane of County Lane 5 North, facing north and still attached to the front of potato truck driven by Martinez-Cruz.

    Answer:
You really do your homework don't you,I don't know how you come across all of it,you must surf all day but good,it's time that people see the human cost of illegal immigration. It could happen to any truck driver is I'm sure what some apologists will say or something equally stupid, but since he was illegal and apperantly unlicensed we have no idea whether he even was properly trained. So everybody there's another one of those "jobs Americans won't do" filled by an illegal alien and all it cost was a human life. By the way truck driving is a good paying job Americans will do for any that could miss the sarcasm,I know I am one and they pay me quite well and it never caused anyone to die.

    Answer:
Regardless of whether or not it is cheaper, I think it would be better if you can fly with your dad to Alamosa. That way if there are any delays you are with someone you know. My recommendation is for your dad to fly to Detroit and both of you fly to Alamosa. Too many things can happen since you have 2 connections to make. If you are very price sensitive and every dollar counts, then just as the person above me wrote, you can visit expedia.com.
