City Description

Iron Horse is a census-designated place (CDP) in Plumas County, California, United States. The population was 321 at the 2000 census. Iron Horse is located at 39°47′23″N 120°29′44″W / 39.78972, -120.49556 (39.789714, -120.495605). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 9.2 square miles (23.8 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 321 people, 122 households, and 96 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 35.0 people per square mile (13.5/km²). There were 148 housing units at an average density of 16.1/sq mi (6.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 92.83% White, 0.62% Black or African American, 0.62% Native American, 2.18% from other races, and 3.74% from two or more races. 5.61% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 122 households out of which 33.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.7% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.3% were non-families. 18.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
