Escalon is located at 37°47′39″N 120°59′42″W / 37.79417, -120.995 (37.794055, -120.995022).According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.3 km²). 2.0 square miles (5.3 km²) of it is land and 0.49% is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 5,963 people, 2,056 households, and 1,597 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,930.0 people per square mile (1,128.6/km²). There were 2,132 housing units at an average density of 1,047.6/sq mi (403.5/km²). It was estimated that the population would grow to 7,257 people as of July 2006. This is a 21.7% change. The racial makeup of the city was 85.23% White, 0.57% African American, 0.96% Native American, 1.09% Asian, 0.18% Pacific Islander, 8.72% from other races, and 3.25% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 18.87% of the population.
