What should I do about a speeding ticket in Blythe, CA for 101 in a 70mph Zone? Question: I recently was driving from California to Arizona; Blythe, lies right on the boarder. I was driving on the interstate when a police officer pulled me over for going 101 in a 70mph zone. He said "he clocked me going over 100," but I honestly don't know how fast I was going. I was very tired and trying very hard to focus on the road as I had been driving since 4am, it was at 7:40am on a Sunday morning, and there was little to no traffic. He asked me what the rush was, and I told him there was none.
This is my first ticket and I'm very frightened. I have heard that I could have my license suspended and receive jail time on top of the fee of $300-500 .
Should I / How do I contest the ticket?
Does it matter if he used airplane radar and came at me from the opposite side of the freeway?
Am I eligible for Driving School to get the points removed?
Will this negatively impact my 'criminal' record? (ie: will I have a hard time getting a job in the future?)
And please, any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Trust me, I definitely will pay more attention to my speed.
Answer:
mikesco has given you good information (he always does). So you know the scheduled fine for a violation of Veh C 22348(b). The court can, but does not have to suspend your license for up to 30 days, and it is a 2 point offense with DMV, which will not help your auto insurance. Traffic school is not available (it is not available for any 2-point offense--Veh C 41501(b), 12810.) There is a mandatory court appearance. (You can appear through counsel, and if you live a long distance away, it may be cheaper to hire an attorney than to appear yourself.)
However, you did not commit this offense if you were going 100 mph, rather than 101. At 100, you would be violating Veh C 22349(a) (speeding). That is a 1-point offense, and the fine would be about $380. I think any hearing officer would agree that a 1 mph error in calculating your speed was very possible, making it difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you violated Veh C 22348(b).
There may, or may not, be a prosecutor in court (I am not familiar with San Bernardino County (or even Riverside County, Sup) practice, and this varies). If so, talk to the prosecutor. If not, talk to the hearing officer. I would offer to plead guilty to a 22349(a) charge. While technically traffic school is available for such a charge, I would think it very doubtful that you could get that. But the lower offense will certainly help your pocketbook, in both fines and insurance.
[And thanks for the heads-up, Sup!]

Best route for driving from so. Cal to Tucson, AZ? Question: We might visit family in Tucson, driving from the south bay of so. California. We once took some freeway off of the 91 or 60, to Palm Springs, to get to the 10 fwy and because of construction in that area, it was a nightmare!
I may just ge onto the 10 freeway near West Covina and take that all the way to AZ. If we get up really early maybe we can avoid any traffic.
We would leave Saturday before Christmas and come back on the Tues or Wednesday after Christmas.
Anyone know this route and the traffic patterns?
My husband doesn't really want to fly. We have family in Blythe and we can take a stop there for rest.
I have checked the actual driving route on mapquest. But I was wondering which route is best as far as the traffic etc... I may have to ask the Auto Club.
Answer:
K. B.:
You have already outlined your itinerary to travel from the south bay area of Los Angeles to Tucson, Arizona with a stop in Blythe, California. As you stated, you would travel north on US 91, west on US 60 and east on I-10.
If you wish to avoid US 60, then as you also correctly stated you would simply stay on north US 91 until you got to the east I-10, it's only a few miles further.

My boyfriend does not want to meet my parents? Question: So my boyfriend (who lives in Arizona.....I live in California) of 186 days (having sex for 68 days) does not want to meet my parents. Well I don't know if he does not want to but he never makes an effort. One time he was supposed to meet them and he took off to Vegas. Now all we do is meet in Blythe (which is a halfway point) and hang out in a room and.......well......you know. Its weird because when I call my parents to tell them I made it ok......my boyfriend tells them he says hi but I don't think my Dad likes it very much. What is going on?
Answer:
He may not be comfortable just yet because he does not take you seriously (as yet). That is not a good sign
