Questions Possibly Related to Biola, CaliforniaProvided By Y! Answers
Azusa Pacific versus Biola? Question: So, I am a junior in high school and I am trying to decide whether I should try more for Biola or Azusa Pacific. Both are Christian colleges in the Southern California area. I live literally 5 minutes away from Biola, but I feel like its a prettier, newer school. Then, Azusa is about 45 minutes away-ish and I REALLY want to live off campus which is something I wouldn't be able to do if I went to Biola. Also, Azusa is a little bit cheaper than Biola. Also, My grades have recently suffered because of the passing of my mother about 2 months ago, as well as health problems. So much so that my GPA has dropped to a 3.0.
Will I even have a chance at getting into either of them?
Will they make any exceptions for recent circumstances?
I have been told they will, but I am just very nervous.
Any advice or constructive thoughts would be very encouraging and make me feel better about everything.
Please and thank you.
God Bless.
Answer:
All I can tell you is one of my friends from HS went to Biola. She met her husband there, she loved her freshman dormitory roommate, she got a great education there. My impression of Biola has always been very positive.
Wish I could tell you something about Azusa Pacific... but I can't. Either way I am sure you will make the right decision for you. God Bless and happy holidays.

Anyone know anything about Biola University? Question: It is a "Christian" University in Southern California. I believe it is fully accredited. What is a Christian education anyway?
I mean, can you take Economics there? What about science? How does a Christian University teach Science.
Yes, I already know I can look at the website. I am looking for people's opinions. Thanks
Answer:
The March issue of Los Angeles Magazine has an interesting article on Biola. Maybe you can find a copy or find it online.

Could you recommend a phenomenal Christian university outside of the LA area? Question: I've always wanted to go to Biola University, but I've really gotten sick and tired of Los Angeles over the years, and doubt that I'd be able to live there for four years w/o losing my sanity. So I'm on the hunt again! I'm looking for a evangelical Christian university on the same level as Biola. I want to major in either English or filmmaking, so I'd obviously prefer a school with respected programs in those two areas. I also REALLY wanted to be a part of Biola's Torrey Honors Institute, so a school with a similar program would be wonderful.
I'd really appreciate it if alumni could speak from experience! Thanks!
By the way, I live in California and don't want to go too far from home.
Reminding you... I want to go OUT of LA.... it seems there was a bit of confusion... but still, thanx!

Private Christian universities with a Computer Information Systems or Computer Science program? Question: I'm looking for a good Christian university to transfer to from my JC in Southern California with a really good Computer Information Systems (CIS) program or any Computer Science program. Does anyone know any?
I'm leaning towards either Biola or Chapman because Vanguard does not have a Computer Science program.
A good private Christian University in Southern California
Answer:
If you want a small Christian College with a great undergrad program in CS, how about St. Edwards U in Austin, TX. They are a Catholic University set up by the same group that formed Notre Dame (Brothers of the Holy Cross.) Austin is not only a great party town (since U of Texas is located there) it has a youthful population. Chuckle, our grand children go there or U of Texas.
Sorry I answered before you updated your question... I know very little about Universities in Southern California... Chuckle, but I did try to get in Cal Tech as a young man. A phone call to local colleges & universities should get you the info you seek.

Do christian colleges allow gay organizations like Delta Lambda Phi on their campuses? Question: I am watching "Prom Queen: The Marc Hall Story" in which this gay boy wants to take his boyfriend to prom. He goes to a Catholic high school, so it all became a big deal. So I'm wondering, just like there are christian primary and secondary schools. There are also post-secondary christian institutions like Pepperdine University or Biola University in California. I'm wondering whether they allow gay organizations on campus?
What say you?
Answer:
I read an article about it. The club will have a tough time finding a faculty member to support them but they can still organize.

Does it matter if you send your ACT scores over your SAT scores.? Question: I got a 25 on my ACT without studying & plan to take it again. I got a 1540 on my SAT with studying, & it was my second time taking it (I plan on taking it again if I need to). I was wondering if it would be 'normal' to send my ACT scores instead of my SAT scores. I live in California, so that's why I'm asking, considering that the SAT is the preferred test. My GPA is about a 3.4 & I also take AP courses.
These are some colleges I am considering: (I checked them all & my ACT scores are within range, but my SAT scores are too low for some of them.)
Biola University
California Lutheran University
California Polytechnic State University: San Luis Obispo
California State University: Chico
California State University: East Bay
Dominican University of California
New York University
Pepperdine University
San Diego State University
San Francisco State University
San Jose State University
Syracuse University
University of California: Davis
University of San Francisco
University of the Pacif
Answer:
If you are taking SAT II Subject tests, then some of the colleges you are applying to will end up seeing your SAT I score. Remember though, you cannot be selective about sending SAT scores. If you want to just send one score, the colleges will see the history of all the tests you have taken in the last four years. That's why college board sucks. Anyway, a lot of the schools you listed, (most of them) only require the SAT I or the ACT with writing, so it doesn't matter if you send in your ACT score over your SAT score. Nowadays though, colleges do look favorably at SATs, simply because there is more competion between the students who are taking the test versus the ACT. If I were you though, I would just submit my ACT, since it is a lot better than your SAT score. Also, who wants to go through the hassel of studying for another SAT test which is four hours long. Also, an extra 50 dollars or so!

Answer:
First, what sort of engineering are you talking about?
Second, are you looking for a trade school, or a traditional 4 year university? Some of the schools you listed don't even offer bachelor programs.
Third, most of those schools you listed obviously DON'T have any engineering programs to begin with!
Do some more research, and come back when you've got maybe 4 or 5 real choices. I mean come on, do you REALLY think that a art college or music conservatory will offer any engineering classes?

How does one best defend the sovereingty of God? Question: I am a high school student participating in the California State Science Fair on Monday-Tuesday, May 22nd-23rd. My qualifying fair was the ACSI fair at Biola University last month, and part of participating in that fair was adding a "Biblical Application" to my project. In my application, I asserted that my project's results (that the phases of the moon, eclipses, perigee, apogee, etc. do not affect the birth and death rates of human beings) show that God is sovereign. I used a passage from Job 38, Ecclesiasties 3, and Psalm 139.
That said, what on earth do I say to the communist USC professors when they ask me to defend the sovereingty of God?
HELP! and thank you!!
Answer:
God is omnipotent - his sovereignty does not need defending. You could argue that it would be a waste of your time to defend the Supreme Being to people who do not believe in his existence, but would just like to point out the beauty of a budding rose; the smile of an innocent child; the uniqueness of each snowflake; the incredible "chance" of billions of people all having a different DNA and fingerprints and hope that they will understand your awe and your belief that there must be a superior intelligence involved. (Obviously, you use your own analogies).

COLLEGE ESSAY TIME... APPLYING TO CHRISTIAN COLLEGE! PLEASE READ!!!!!? Question: Hey, I'm applying at Biola University in California and I was just wondering if there is anyone who would want to read my essay and don't reply if your just going to say I'm lazy, I just want another opinion other than my moms... :/ . So please please please be awesome! And hey if you're an applicant somewhere and need me to read your essay I absolutely will!
By the way, i need your email or wait actually i will just upload onto this!! Check it out!!
At Biola University, our common foundation is our faith in Christ and becoming transformed into His likeness. In light of this fact, please describe: a) the circumstances surrounding your decision to become a follower of Jesus Christ, using various Bible passages as the framework for your salvation and eternal life in Christ, and b) using specific examples, describe your process of spiritual growth over the past three years.
Actually I can't upload the because it's too long, but send me an email!
Answer:
Last year 2252 people applied to Biola. They accepted 1891. Do you really think that a school that accepts 85% of its applicants is going to be picky about what you write?
I'm not saying this to be mean -- but as long as you have a HS diploma, a pulse and blindly accepts the tenets of ultraconservative Christianity, they will accept you.
If you want a real education, then you should go to a better school.

http://www.fafsa.ed.gov
Sorry, I don't know anything about where you can learn to do court reporting.

University music audition??? Question: I want to attend Biola University and major in biological sciences with a Music minor (piano). In order to do this i would have to audition. I live in a faraway country and I am not financially well off so travelling to California for the audition is out of the question, but they would allow me to submit a DVD. But my mother says that if we can't afford it (and she's totally against loans), why go through all the work, time and effort to audition anyway? But I really want to? Should I just forget about it because of my financial situation? Or should I do it anyway and just pray for a scholarship?

to all my atheist siblings, Is The Scientific World indeed turning to God?read all before answering.? Question: The Scientific World is turning to God.
“As people have certainly been influenced by me, I want to try and correct the enormous damage I may have done.” (Anthony Flew)
The newspapers these days are echoing with these regret-filled words by Antony Flew, in his time a well-known atheist philosopher. The 81-year-old British professor of philosophy Flew chose to become an atheist at the age of 15, and first made a name for himself in the academic field with a paper published in 1950. In the 54 years that followed, he defended atheism as a teacher at the universities of Oxford, Aberdeen, Keele and Reading, at many American and Canadian universities he visited, in debates, books, lecture halls and articles. In recent days, however, Flew has announced that he has abandoned this error and accepts that the universe was created.
The decisive factor in this radical change of view is the clear and definitive evidence revealed by science on the subject of creation. Flew realized, in the face of the information-based complexity of life, that the true origin of life is intelligent design and that the atheism he had espoused for 66 years was a discredited philosophy.
Flew announced the scientific reasons underlying this change in belief in these terms:
“Biologists’ investigation of DNA has shown, by the almost unbelievable complexity of the arrangements which are needed to produce [life], that intelligence must have been involved.”[1]
“It has become inordinately difficult even to begin to think about constructing a naturalistic theory of the evolution of that first reproducing organism.”[2]
“I have been persuaded that it is simply out of the question that the first living matter evolved out of dead matter and then developed into an extraordinarily complicated creature.”[3]
The DNA research which Flew cites as a fundamental reason for his change of opinion has indeed revealed striking facts about creation. The helix shape of the DNA molecule, its possession of the genetic code, the nucleotide strings that refute blind chance, the storage of encyclopedic quantities of information and many other striking findings have revealed that the structure and functions of this molecule were arranged for life with a special design. Comments by scientists concerned with DNA research bear witness to this fact.
Francis Crick, for instance, one of the scientists who revealed the helix shape of DNA admitted in the face of the findings regarding DNA that the origin of life indicated a miracle:
An honest man, armed with all the knowledge available to us now, could only state that in some sense, the origin of life appears at the moment to be almost a miracle, so many are the conditions which would have had to have been satisfied to get it going.[4]
Based on his calculations, Led Adleman of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles has stated that one gram of DNA can store as much information as a trillion compact discs.[5] Gene Myers, a scientist employed on the Human Genome Project, has said the following in the face of the miraculous arrangements he witnessed:
“What really astounds me is the architecture of life… The system is extremely complex. It’s like it was designed… There’s a huge intelligence there.”[6]
The most striking fact about DNA is that the existence of the coded genetic information can definitely not be explained in terms of matter and energy or natural laws. Dr. Werner Gitt, a professor at the German Federal Institute of Physics and Technology, has said this on the subject:
A code system is always the result of a mental process… It should be emphasized that matter as such is unable to generate any code. All experiences indicate that a thinking being voluntarily exercising his own free will, cognition, and creativity, is required… There is no known natural law through which matter can give rise to information, neither is any physical process or material phenomenon known that can do this.[7]
Creationist scientists and philosophers played a major role in Flew’s acceptance of intelligent design, backed up by all these findings. In recent times Flew participated in debates with scientists and philosophers who were proponents of creation, and exchanged ideas with them. The final turning point in that process was a discussion organized by the Institute for Metascientific Research in Texas in May, 2003. Professor Flew participated in the discussion together with the author, Roy Abraham Varghese, a physicist, and the molecular biologist, Gerald Schroeder. Flew was impressed by the weight of the scientific evidence in favor of creation and by the convincing nature of his opponents’ arguments and abandoned atheism as an idea in the period following that discussion. In a letter he wrote for the August-September, 2003, edition of the British magazine Philosophy Now, he recommended Schroeder’s book “The Hidden Face of God: Science Reveals the Ultimate Truth” and Varghese’s book “The Wonderful World.”[8] During an interview with the professor of philosophy and theology Gary R. Habermas, who also played a major role in his change of mind,[9] and also on the video “Has Science Discovered God?” he openly stated that he believed in intelligent design.
The “Intelligence Pervading the Universe” and the Collapse of Atheism
In the face of all the scientific developments outlined above, the acceptance of intelligent design by Anthony Flew, famous for defending atheism for many years, reflects a final scene in the process of collapse which atheism is being subjected to Modern science has revealed the existence of an “intelligence pervading the universe,” thus leaving atheism out of the equation.
In his book “The Hidden Face of God,” Gerald Schroeder, one of the creationist scientists who influenced Flew, writes:
A single consciousness, a universal wisdom, pervades the universe. The discoveries of science, those that search the quantum nature of subatomic matter, have moved us to the brink of a startling realization: all existence is the expression of this wisdom. In the laboratories we experience it as information that first physically articulated as energy and then condensed into the form of matter. Every particle, every being, from atom to human, appears to represent a level of information, of wisdom.[10]
Scientific research into both the functioning of the cell and the subatomic particles of matter has revealed this fact in an indisputable manner: Life and the universe were brought into being from nothing by the will of an entity possessed of a superior mind and wisdom. There is no doubt that the possessor of that knowledge and mind that designed the universe at all levels is Almighty God. God reveals these truths in many verses of the Quran.

Answer:
Sorry, the term "Creationist scientist" has as much credibility to me as "atheist theologian" would have to you.
An example of poor scientific statement in your article: "There is no known natural law through which matter can give rise to information . . ." Since clearly there indeed appears to be (because it has happened), a true scientist making that statement would explain his basis for this statement. It's like someone telling you that water can't freeze, but ignoring all the ice in the world.
By the way, how much of your money does "creationist scientists" make from books that tell you what you want to hear?

What colleges should I apply to? Question: I'm having a terribly hard time deciding what colleges to apply to this year.
I want to major in Communications and Journalism. I want to work, or shall I say intern, at a Public Relations Firm. I'm interested in fashion, so I was thinking of heading to California or New York, but I'm up for anywhere.
I will be graduating with honors with a 3.7 GPA. I haven't been involved with many extra-curriculars at all, but I plan on writing a killer essay and scoring above a 2000 on my SAT.
I've been against going to a big, state school for a while. I've wanted to go to a smaller university or college. I've visited Biola and am considering going there, but I'm not sure if it's the right school for me.
Any advice on colleges to apply to, and how to get into the PR industry?
Answer:
Syracuse University, Columbia, University of Missouri-Columbia, Northwestern, & UNC Chapel Hill have some of the top Journalism schools in the country.
But, you also need to look at the surrounding cities to see if they have the opportunities you are looking for as far as jobs, interns, salary ranges, cost-of-living. In the end you will have to make the decision on your own. Just make sure you check out as many aspects of the schools you choose as soon as possible. Good Luck and keep working hard!!!
PS- You may want to try a extracurricular or two to beef up you civics side of your college app. Volunteering also looks very good.
