Who has the best BBQ in the East bay (Northern California)?
    Question:
It seems like all the good places either turned bad or shut down, case in point, old school Flint's. Everett & Jones near Jack London has had lack luster reviews. I want some real deal BBQ, help a guy out.

    Answer:
I LOVED "old school" Flint's! What about Uncle Willie's (or did they close?!) (614 14th Street) or The Brick Pig's House (5973 Shattuck Ave)? I have friends who love Chef Edward's (1915 San Pablo Ave) and also Sonny's (7127 San Leandro St) (I haven't been to either yet...). Reviews always seem to be mixed on this kinda' stuff as it's kinda' personal (one's taste in bbq that is!). I just think that ya' gotta' try 'em all--and sometimes a second time... Good luck! Good eatin'! And pleze share the results of your taste tests!

What is the best way to get to Glacier Bay National Park?
    Question:
I'm planning a road trip this summer from northern California up to Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska. However, I'm having trouble figuring out a good way to get into the national park without chartering a private boat or a plane, which might be a little bit out of our budget. I'd like to drive to a point that allows us to spend the least amount of time traveling on the marine highway or by plane. Can someone with more experience with this give me an idea of how to go about doing this?

    Answer:
Haines is as close as you're going to get by car. Beyond that, there are no roads, like much of the state. If you just want to see the park, then a flightseeing trip would be the best option. If you plan on hiking around in the park or backpacking, you'll need to find a boat to take you there and pick you up. Either way it's a fairly expensive proposition. Due to its relative inaccessibility, most people visit it via cruise ship.

California State University Monterey Bay 101?
    Question:
I have a 2.90 cumulative grade point average, a 1460 (570 on Critical Reading, 520 on the Writing portion, and 370 on the math section) on the SAT, I took an AP English class in 11th grade and passed with a C, and half an AP Art class my senior year which I passed with a C half semester. What are my chances of getting into the California State University Monterey Bay for the spring semester with those stats? I'm waiting to hear back from them, but I'd like to know what you think about my chances of getting it, because I'm a bit nervous. Also, I did grew up overseas and attended a DODDS school my entire schooling "career" but I'm not sure if that counts as something that would make me stand out. My alma mater is in Seoul, South Korea. Hey, thanks! I don't think I qualify as an international student because a DODDS school is an American school, and I'm also an American citizen. A DODDS school is a school for kids whose parents are in the military or affiliated with it. The school I graduated from was a DODDS school, but it was located in Seoul, South Korea because of the Army base there. Thanks for your response!

    Answer:
I think you have a shot, but UCs are really competitive. Also, are you an international student? Usually international students tend to have higher standards to meet. This might help you out, its a stats table showing the entering freshman class' gpa, stats, etc., at UC monterey bay. http://statfinder.ucop.edu/statfinder/drawtable.aspx?track=1 I hope that helps. Good luck!

Why are so many people moving to So Cal from the Bay Area?
    Question:
I took my first trip to the Bay Area last weekend and I was very impressed. It was very scenic, clean, and easy to drive through. San Jose is very nice, as well as every city from there to Pacifica, to San Francisco and beyond. I also drove the coast from Pacifica to Santa Cruz. That strecth of coastline has got to be the most beautiful coastline in all of California. I was also impressed with the huge waves breaking at every spot up there (I love to surf). The Redwood trees and the mountains are definitely a sight to see. I especially like the point on top of the hill at Pacifica where you can see the Bay, the areas around the bay, the mountains and the Ocean at the same time. The whole Bay Area and the nearby coastlines are just absolutely beautiful. So why do a lot Bay Area people choose to move? Especially to more crowded and polluted places like So Cal? I liked the Bay Area so much from one trip that I may move there instead of staying in So Cal when I get out of the Navy

    Answer:
Mmross is right. Although the awesome beauty of Northern California is undeniable, actually living in San Francisco is less like a sappy romantic comedy and more like 'Pursuit of Happyness'. Move, move, move... work, work, work. If you can even find any time to go surfing, you're one of the lucky ones. The usual reasons given for folks heading south are: 1- Southern California is less expensive than the S.F. Bay Area. Although L.A. and San Diego's cost of living is rising, it is still a little bit better than ultra expensive San Francisco. Moreover, the inland areas (Riverside, SB County) in the southland are still affordable in comparison to the coast. While the inland Bay Area isn't that much different from S.F. 2- Southern California has more sunshine than the S.F. Bay Area. Winters in Northern California can be extremely wet and foggy along the coast, and freezing cold inland (similar to what you'd see in the Pacific Northwest). 3- Low-end jobs (retail, construction, driving, food, etc.) are easier to come by in Southern California. In contrast, the job market in the S.F. Bay Area is highly competitive and driven by formal education. Many folks just can't take the pressure and covet Southern California's more laid-back environment.

    Flex Point Lending on TV??
    Question:
Hi there, I was getting ready for work this morning and was watching TV when this infomercial/commercial came on from Flex Point Lending. I think their website is www.flexpointtv.com Anyway, I'm just seeing if anyone knows anything about them since I can't find anything good or negative about them on the net. They had some outstanding rates like: $500,000 @ $1200 a month and it just seems way to good to be true. It's highly suspicious to say the least, so I thought I'd see if anyone knew anything. I'm in the market for house out here in the California Bay Area so it peaked my interest to say the least. Thanks.

    Answer:
Well, I would not do anything financial over the internet. If you can't meet them in person I would suspect identity theft, especially form those spamming these boards. There have been 18 complaints against this company filed with the Better Business Bureau. They rate them as a BBB, which is pretty good. If you need some live contacts in near you shoot me an email. I am not a real estate broker or a loan broker, but I know some VERY trustworthy ones with many years of experiance. I have contacts for both great property and great loans, with nothing hidden. Bay Area Alcohol In-Patient Rehab Options?
    Question:
Hi Folks. I need your help. My sister is an alcoholic and my family and I feel it would be best for her to commit to an in-patient rehab program. She's already gone to AA meetings and has multiple DUIs. The problem is that we're on a very tight budget as it is so it's unlikely that we'll be able to afford to pay for this. Are there any non-profit in-patient rehab programs in California (particularly bay area / monterey county)? If so, can someone point me in the right direction?

    San Francisco/Bay Area Family/Divorce Attorneys?
    Question:
My friend is in the process of a divorce, but her current attorney is not very helpful and very negative and not being very positive or reassuring. I don't want to disclose details, but basically, she is not to blame, it was the guy who was in the wrong. She is trying to look for a new divorce attorney, but is feeling so discouraged. Can any of you reccommend a reputable and good divorce attorney in the SF/Bay area of California? Any suggestions would be really appreciated. 10 points to the best answer! Isabella: I hear where you are coming from...but this attorney is not even listening to what she wants and needs, and is basically telling her she has squat when actually she has a much better chance that the husband. I am a law student, so there is only so much I know, and I cannot even provide her with any legal advice since I am not even licensed and I know nothing about California family law.

    Answer:
a real good attorney never gives promises he can't keep. and that is exactly what is going on. look, i worked for a REALLy good attorney. did the impossible. but he was the biggest jerk to his clients. it was MY job to reassure them and give them positive feedback. i referred him to several of my friends. he made them cry. jackazz made me cry. but he was good. a few of his clients refused to see him unless i was in the room. but he was GOOD! not only was he a jerk to his clients, but he was the hugest jerk to the opposing counsel and the opposing party. cleaned them all dry. when looking for an attorney, never look for a friend. friendly attorneys are the worst kind. i really advise to keep the jerk attorney.

    University of California, Berkley?
    Question:
im just a freshman in highschool, Florida but im considering going to California at some point. and i want to eventually live there. so i think the best way to go is to get into a college in the Bay Area. so, i went on Wikipedia but im confused as usual. so like, what programs do they offer? what are they looking for in students (meaning, what are their requirements)? and if they give any scholarships out to people from different states (which is basically the tie-breaker here)? thank you!

Is it still possible to receive traffic school after fighting the traffic ticket and losing?
    Question:
I live in California, the bay area, and I received a ticket from Bart police for crossing a double yellow line (which I did to pass a bicyclist who wouldn't let me pass) and failing to come to a complete stop at the stop sign. I have two points on my license already, one from a previous ticket and the second from a car accident. This is all within a year and 5 months. I was told to show up in court and plead not guilty, and just wait for trial when hopefully the officer will not show up and therefore my ticket gets dismissed. Is this wise to do??? If the officer does show up to trial and I am found guilty, would the judge let me take traffic school to avoid the extra points and higher insurance rates? Or should I just plead guilty and request for traffic school from the start?? By the way, I've never taken traffic school before so I'm in the clear of that once every 18 month rule. Please help!!! Is it likely for the judge to give me traffic school in trial if I am found guilty?? Or should I just plead guilty and ask for traffic school during the arraignment?

    Answer:
It is possible, but much less probable. Traffic school is at the discretion of the judge. Around here, it is given to people who accept responsibility for their actions, it is not given when someone contests the charge and goes to trial. You should call the court clerk, they may be able to answer your question. As far as the ticket getting dismissed for the officer not showing up, the chances are slim. I certainly wouldn't count on it. If the officer has a valid excuse, the trial will be rescheduled.

Male / Female Ratio in Bay Area?
    Question:
Hello there, Can someone point me to somewhere that i can get the male/female popuplation ratio in bay area (or better in California?) thanks, Michael

    Answer:
You can find all this (and MORE!) by going to http://www.census.gov You'll have to do a find or search -- look for Data there and just follow the screens. They have lots of statistical info of all sorts there, and, since we paid for it, we get to see it. BTW, I live in the east bay and I don't know what's up with the others who answered your question, but f/m ratio is always pretty close to 50-50 everywhere. And the idea that everyone here is gay is a myth.

you might be from Southern California if? and what is the best thing about San Diego?
    Question:
Southern California, or So Cal, is defined as the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Its population centers on the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside and Ventura. The region is home to over 23 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, behind only the BosWash Region in the Northeastern United States. There is no official definition for the northern boundary of Southern California. However, most definitions in use include all the land south of the Tehachapi Mountains, located about 70 miles (113 km) north of Los Angeles. On the west of Southern California lies the Pacific Ocean; to the south is the international border between the United States and Mexico; to the east are the Mojave and Colorado Deserts and the Colorado River at the state's border with Arizona and Nevada. Southern California is also divided into the Coastal Region (Orange County, Los Angeles County, San Diego County, Santa Barbara County, and Ventura County) and the larger, more sparsely populated, desert Inland Empire (San Bernardino County, Riverside County, and Imperial County). The division between the Coastal Regions and the Inland Empire winds along the backs of the coastal mountain ranges such as the Santa Ana Mountains. A related geographical term is cismontane Southern California, which refers to the portion of California on the coastal side of the Transverse and Peninsular mountain ranges. The term "Southern California" often refers to this region specifically, as opposed to largely desert areas comprising the rest of the southern portion of the state, which are referred to as transmontane Southern California. San Diego (pronounced /ˌsændiˈeɪgoʊ/) is a coastal Southern California city located in the southwestern corner of the continental United States. In 2007, the city's population was estimated to be 1,266,731.[1] It is the second largest city in California and the eighth largest city in the United States, by population. It is the county seat of San Diego County.[2] and is the economic center of the San Diego–Carlsbad–San Marcos metropolitan area, the 17th-largest in the United States with a population of 3,146,274 as of 2008, and the 21st-largest metropolitan area in the Americas when including Tijuana (See San Diego-Tijuana Metro.). San Diego County lies just north of the Mexican border—sharing a border with Tijuana—and lies south of Orange County. It is home to miles of beaches, a mild Mediterranean climate and 16 military facilities hosting the United States Navy, the United States Coast Guard and the United States Marine Corps. The presence of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) with the affiliated UCSD Medical Center promotes research in biotechnology.[citation needed] San Diego's economy is largely composed of agriculture, biotechnology/biosciences, computer sciences, electronics manufacturing, defense-related manufacturing, financial and business services, ship-repair and construction, software development, telecommunications, and tourism. The city of San Diego itself has deep canyons separating its mesas, creating small pockets of natural parkland scattered throughout the city. The same canyons give parts of the city a highly segmented feel, creating literal gaps between otherwise proximal neighborhoods and contributing to a low-density, car-centered built environment. Downtown San Diego is located on San Diego Bay. Balboa Park lies on a mesa to the northeast. It is surrounded by several dense urban communities and abruptly ends in Hillcrest to the north. The Coronado and Point Loma peninsulas separate San Diego Bay from the ocean. Ocean Beach is on the west side of Point Loma. Mission Beach and Pacific Beach lie between the ocean and Mission Bay, a man-made aquatic park. La Jolla, an affluent community, lies north of Pacific Beach. Mount Soledad in La Jolla offers views from northern San Diego County to Mexico. Mountains rise to the east of the city, and beyond the mountains are desert areas. Cleveland National Forest is a half-hour drive from downtown San Diego. Numerous farms are found in the valleys northeast and southeast of the city. San Diego County has one of the highest counts of animal and plant species that appear on the endangered species list among counties in the United States.[3]
