American Canyon is a city located in southern Napa County, California, 42 miles (68 km) northeast of San Francisco. It is part of the Napa, California Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2008, the population was 15,276, up sharply from the 2000 census population of 9,774. Its zip code is 94503, and its area code is 707. It is in the Pacific Time time zone and observes daylight-saving time. The city was incorporated in 1992. American Canyon is located at 38°10'5" North, 122°15'9" West (38.168059, -122.252589). American Canyon is bounded geographically by the Napa River to the west, the foothills of the Sulphur Springs Mountains to the east, Vallejo to the south and vineyards and the Napa County Airport (IATA airport code APC) to the north. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.1 square miles (10.7 km²). As of the census of 2000, there are 9774 people in the city, organized into 3209 households and 2451 families. The population density is 2,368.0 people per square mile (913.7/km²). There are 3274 housing units at an average density of 793.2/sq mi (306.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city is 59.2% White, 16.16% Asian, 7.34% Black or African
