    Altadena is an unincorporated census-designated place in Los Angeles County, California, approximately 14 miles (23 km) from the downtown Los Angeles Civic Center. The population was 42,610 at the 2000 census. Featuring spectacular views of the San Gabriel Mountains, Altadena was developed as a suburb of Los Angeles in 1887. It has long refused annexation by neighboring Pasadena. Its unincorporated status allowed it to become a major settlement area for working- and middle-class African-Americans during a period in which non-whites were forbidden to live in the vast majority of greater Los Angeles. The name Altadena derives from the Spanish alta, meaning "upper", and -dena from Pasadena; the area is adjacent to, but at a higher elevation than, Pasadena. Altadena is part of the County of Los Angeles and is politically run by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors who have executive, legislative and judicial powers. There are five members of the Board of Supervisors, elected by geographic district. Altadena is in District five, presently represented by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich. Building Company of Pasadena came to San Diego in the late 1920s to purchase lots in Kensington to develop their superior custom homes that had been so popular in the greater Los Angeles area. One of them was this nice place: A historic 1929, two-story, Spanish Eclectic, Monterrey style house in the Kensington community of Talmadge Park was built by the well-reputed Pasadena-based Bathrick Brothers Building Company, who built the house on speculation in 1929 as they worked on a number of other custom homes in nearby Kensington Manor. The house quickly sold to a succession of speculators and several editions of the Sunday San Diego Union featured promotional photos of it.

    I don't know of any stores that sell hand-fed budgies. You might want to check a bird talk magazine. In the back of them they have places to get birds listed by state. Also, I have bought a budgie that was not hand raised, but was extremely young. They are extremely easy to train as long as you work with them consistently. They aren't like a larger bird that can be extremely aggressive. You may also want to try www.petfinder.com. You can adopt a bird there that needs a home. You can usually find young parakeets there. You may even be able to find one that is already trained and waiting for you to love it. I know that the bird talk magazine does have some really good sites for looking up birds. I do not have one on hand right now or I would give you the addresses.

    in my town, we have 70% or more from mexico. guess what it is in altadena? inglewood? manhattan beach? if you're mexican and labled minority, are we talking california, united states or oxnard? because mexicans in oxnard are not the minority. you get my drift. so in inglewood, are black people considered minorities? in oxnard they are, but so are white people. in altadena, i see mostly japanese people. not all, but a goodly amount. are they not considered minority there? does it just matter where you happen to be?
