City DescriptionAlamo is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Contra Costa County, California, in the United States. It is located in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. As of the 2000 census, the population was 15,626.
Alamo was named by the Spanish in 1850 for the poplar trees that lined San Ramon Creek.
As an unincorporated community, Alamo does not have a government of its own. Police services are provided by the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff. Fire and EMS services are provided by the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District.
In August, 2007, a group of citizens launched a new initiative to incorporate the community, the latest in a series of attempts that go back to the early 1960s or before. Previous failed Alamo incorporation efforts always included parts of other nearby unincorporated areas: Alamo-Danville (1964) and Alamo-Danville-San Ramon (1976).
In 1985, Alamo almost had a chance to vote on its own incorporation, but Contra Costa County turned down the effort. Alamo has never had an opportunity to vote on incorporation by itself.
People have lived in this area for over 5,000 years. The Tatcan Indians, a Bay Miwok tribe closely ... Read MoreCity Contained By:- Contra Costa County

I'm planning a trip to California. What is the best car rental company? Question: I'm french. My girlfriend and I would like to go from SF to LA.
1° Have you heard about "Alamo"
2° What about insurances
3° Can we rental a mechanical gear (don't know how to drive an automatic
4° We're planning to rent it for a full week : will $ 200 - $250 be enough for a compact car with insurances (e.g. : chevy aveo)
Answer:
Alamo is a large company and completely reputable. Hertz is the largest and possibly the best. Alamo should not be a problem if that is who you want to use.
Since you are from France I am not sure how the insurance would work. You should ask your insurance company, and the car rental company as well.
You will probably have to rent an automatic but they are VERY easy to drive. (Easier than standard/mechanical shift.) On the automatic shift gear indicator you will see P, N, R, D, and then numbers such as 3, 2, 1. P is for park. Only shift into this when the car is at a full stop! N is neutral. D is for Drive. When you want to move forward put the transmission into D (drive) and hit the gas. That's all there is to it. R is for reverse. Same as drive, but in reverse. The numbers allow you to select a specific gear. It is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that you will need to use this feature. NOTE: When shifting into our out of park or reverse the car should NOT be moving. In fact many cars require that your foot be on the brake when you shift.
$200-250 sounds reasonable for a week long rental, but it all depends on the city you are renting from. Also, when renting in one city and dropping in another you may have to pay extra.
I hope this helped. Enjoy your trip.

With the High Costs of Illegal Immigration, are America's Tacos Coming Home to Roost? Question: What did we do to deserve to have to support Mexico? Alamo? Texas? California?
If you take the time to focus on the picturesque speech, you may also want to try to tell us exactly why the citizens of a country should give free healthcare, education, and food stamps and, probably, nursing home care and social security to people from another country and why people of another country should enjoy the assets of America at very little cost.

California versus Texas? Question: We all are part of this great union, but if California and Texas were separate countries and declared war on each other, Everyone should agree California would win. Not easily but would subdue Texas over time not only because it has almost double the population of the Lone Star State but has more licensed guns per square mile.
Not to mention it is considered the 7th Richest country in the world.
And Californians own at least 3 to 4 vehicles per household. Making Ford and Chevy design California Edition vehicles.
Economy is at least 6 times that of Texas, Have more wealth per Capita. Technology rivals that of Japan something Texas can't do and Californian's are experts in nanotech devices.
Both have Nuclear Capability but Texas it's maily power California has Los Alamos, even then both are too close to use this force anyhow.
Ronny and Nixon were both Presidents but Californians respected Eisenhower because he did so much for CA
Beaches actually have blue water not mud
Answer:
Texas would kick the living sh*t out of Cali.
California is a cool state, but seriously it's full of pacifist hippies, vegan homosexuals, and Mexicans who can't speak English well enough to know what the word "war" actually means. Texans won't show any mercy.
Everyone knows you don't mess with Texas.
Besides, Texas has Ft Hood; largest military installation in the US.

Why are people outside of Texas always so bitter about anything that is related to Texas? Question: Why are people outside of California always so bitter about anything that is related to California?
They will hate on anything as long as it's related to Texas. Like the Longhorns, Texas Tech, Cowboys, Spurs, Alamo, Beaches, beautiful girls, BBQ, oil, NASA, Size of "things" being BIGGER.
Answer:
People must be jealous of their big cows, and steaks and what not. Or maybe it's the hats???
Really all I have to say is: As big as a hat! (and that's not a good thing)

California Hauntings? Question: I'm from Texas and we have our fare share of haunted areas like the Alamo, so I was just wondering what famous haunted places existed here in California. I'm in LA in the San Fernando Valley, but it doesn't matter where they are, just curious!
Answer:
In Southern California, I'd say the Queen Mary (Long Beach) takes the cake.
It was a troop ship during the war. Rumors are rife about paranormal activity - time travel and the like - when it crossed the Bermuda Triangle. These stories actually became the basis for an X-Files episode. There have been several deadly accidents since it was moved to California and became a tourist attraction, which has only added to the creepy reputation.
-----
In Northern California, Winchester Mystery House (San Jose) and Alcatraz (San Francisco) are supposedly haunted as well.
Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester, believed that victims of the company's "products" were trying to kill her. So, she had full of false doors built in her 160 room mansion. There were also hallways that led to nowhere. And incomplete stairways that opened into empty space or sudden drops. Construction continued until her death. In this way, she had hoped to fool the spirits into running around in the labyrinth (and sparing her).
Alcatraz is, of course, infamous as one of the nation's most feared prisons. While it was operating, several escape attempts ended in the death of guards or prisoners. The D Block cells (where the most bloody incidents took place) are regarded as haunted. Visitors and rangers have made claims of hearing screams, slamming cell doors, and unidentified footsteps.

Road trip from Florida to California; need suggestions!!!? Question: At the end of the school year, me and three friends are planning on going on a road trip from our hometown (Orlando, Fl.) to California. We plan on heading up through Florida into Georgia and visiting Atlanta (our favorite city, as we all have family there). From Georgia we'll continue through Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and then through California. On the way back, we plan on visiting Nevada (Las Vegas!). My question is: What should we see? I'm sure there are very interesting things to visit within all the states, but what are they? So far all we have is:
Florida: nothing.
Georgia: Atlanta...
Alabama: the Civil Rights museums...
Mississippi: nothing.
Louisiana: New Orleans...
Texas: the River Walk in San Antonio and the Alamo...
New Mexico: nothing...
Arizona: Grand Canyon and the Petrified Forest...
California: Hollywood...
Nevada: Las Vegas...
Suggestions for any of those states would be greatly appreciated ;)
Answer:
go see hoover dam in nevada, Santa Fe in new mexico, in california try San Fransisco, maybe go up north and see redwood national park, so much to do in california. pretty much covered arizona.

What do you think is so great about Texas? Question: For me, I'd have to say the following: the people; sure, there are good and bad apples everywhere, but Texans from I've seen are some of the friendliest, most charitable people anywhere.
Among other things: Alamo, Riverwalk, El Mercado, State Capitol, Sixth Street in Austin, Town Lake, Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Stockyards, Mesquite Rodeo, AmeriQuest Field, Texas Rangers baseball, Houston Astros baseball, Galveston, The Strand, Galveston Beach, corn nuggets, Texas-sized steaks, wildflowers, diverse landscapes (hills, desert, pine woods, plains, beaches, etc.,) wide open spaces, the state seal, the state flag...
If there are any other ones you want to add, please go ahead. And by the way, I'm not from Texas, I'm from Kentucky, but I'm saving up so I can get down there as fast as freakin' possible. (I'll have my Bachelor's degree in two years, then I can move down there.) Sure, I could move to California, Alaska, Michigan, Florida, Carolinas, Colorado, etc., but I like TX!
Answer:
Texas is one of the largest wastes of resources in the world. From the obvious (oil, water) to the not-so-obvious (people, potential). It's a state rife with despotism, racism, and anti-social behaviours that are viewd by the power-elite as virtues.
Perhaps the best way to explain the idiocy and hypocrisy is in the modern-day slogan "Don't Mess With Texas." Too bad they didn't have that slogan back when Polk was president. They were a bunch of rich, diletante land-owners who knew how to use racism to inflame the Americvan politicians (it goes back a long way). We'd be saying, "¡No Interfiera Con Tejas!"
Most of the Texas chauvanists (especially two very prominent ones) deserve the label "All hat, no cattle."

Question: I'm trying to take leave in Sacramento, been stationed over seas for the last 2 years so I dont have a car. however, being under 21 (currently 20) in the military I have been denied the capability to rent a car from Hertz, Budget, Alamo, Avis, and Payless simply for the fact that I will be on leave and not on travel orders; even as an additional driver with someone over 25 I am still being denied. Is it about time this came out? Some Jehovah's Witnesses want more than to leave Watchtowers ? Question: Towns where Alleged Jehovah's Witness Child molesters have been reported to silentlambs
Home
Listed by each state
If you would to add a new listing contact silentlambs at info@silentlambs.org
The list below is designed to alert you to a possible danger in your community. Over the course of the last four years silentlambs has been a repository of reports on alleged Jehovah's Witness child molesters. Victims have reported extensively on times, dates and places abuse occurred. We have wrestled with how to alert the public as well as members that may be in congregations where abusers have been reported.
We offer the following suggestions if you as a Jehovah's Witness are in a town/congregation where a report has been made.
Do not allow your children to be alone with anyone in the congregation.
Escort your children to the bathroom during meetings and make sure no else is with them when using facilities.
Never allow your children to be alone in the car with anyone while in field service.
Do not allow any member to study with your child alone.
Avoid camping trips in which children go as a group with one or two adults.
Avoid baby sitters that are adult males.
At a get together watch your children and keep them in sight at all times.
Ask elders directly if they know of any abusers in your congregation, use specific names and note their reaction. They will not tell you directly but indirectly you can often figure out who it is. If one elder is less cooperative talk to another till you find out enough information to know the facts.
Check the local sex offender list in your area, type in the name of every person in your congregation to see if any are listed.
Notice any male member of the congregation that does not have privileges such as microphone or other duties around the congregation, especially if for a long period of time. They can offer talks on the TMS or sermons Service Meeting but are not allowed to conduct meetings. (This is only in case of a confessed child molester)
Note any member of the congregation that has children with sever rebellion or emotional problems.
Do not allow your children to have sleepovers with anyone.
Note members that the elders avoid having around their children.
If you are a member of the public and your community is on the list take the following steps to protect your family.
If Jehovah's Witnesses call at your home never allow them in your home
If you do not wish Jehovah's Witnesses to call at your home purchase a no trespassing sign and place it near your door. JW's are instructing to only respect "no trespassing" signs any other variation will be ignored.
If you do not wish Jehovah's Witnesses to call you can also call the local number and ask to be placed on the "do not call" list. They will note your home and check about once a year to make sure you wish to remain on the list.
If you choose to study with Jehovah's Witnesses do so at a neutral location such as the local Kingdom Hall or in a public place.
Never allow your child to be alone with members or their children.
If you choose to attend meetings with Jehovah's Witnesses then we suggest you follow the guidelines above for members.
Remember that most members are not aware of who the molesters are in their congregation according to church policy. They do not know.
If two Jehovah's Witnesses call at your door one could be a child molester. According to church guidelines all confessed child molesters are required to have a partner when going door to door. If two Jehovah's Witnesses appear at your door you might wish to ask if one or both are child molesters for peace of mind. Of course keep in mind if the person is an accused child molester they are allowed to work alone in the door to door work.
We hope this information is helpful and assists with the ultimate goal of silentlambs, protecting children. Check back as the list is updated on a regular basis.
