Wheatley is located at 34°54′53″N 91°6′31″W / 34.91472, -91.10861 (34.914774, -91.108721).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.2 square miles (8.2 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 372 people, 151 households, and 109 families residing in the city. The population density was 117.3 people per square mile (45.3/km²). There were 175 housing units at an average density of 55.2/sq mi (21.3/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 69.35% White, 29.30% Black or African American, 0.54% Native American, 0.27% from other races, and 0.54% from two or more races. 2.69% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
