Russell is located at 35°21′46″N 91°30′35″W / 35.36278, -91.50972 (35.362907, -91.509687).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²), all land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 228 people, 103 households, and 64 families residing in the town. The population density was 419.2/km² (1,102.9/mi²). There were 116 housing units at an average density of 213.3/km² (561.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.56% White and 0.44% Native American. 1.32% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 103 households out of which 29.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.7% were married couples living together, 15.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.9% were non-families. 34.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.21 and the average family size was 2.83.
