City DescriptionMarion is a city in Crittenden County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 8,901 at the 2000 census. The city is the county seat of Crittenden County, and is part of the Memphis metropolitan area.
Both Union Pacific Railroad and BNSF Railway operate major intermodal freight terminals near Marion.
Marion is located at 35°12′22″N 90°12′6″W / 35.20611, -90.20167 (35.206092, -90.201734).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.4 square miles (34.8 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 8,901 people, 3,254 households, and 2,508 families residing in the city. The population density was 663.3 people per square mile (256.1/km²). There were 3,365 housing units at an average density of 250.7/sq mi (96.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 83.96% White, 14.13% Black or African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.60% Asian, 0.49% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. 1.44% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
