Mammoth Spring is located at 36°29′36″N 91°32′37″W / 36.49333, -91.54361 (36.493268, -91.543577).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.6 km²), of which, 1.4 square miles (3.5 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (2.86%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,147 people, 509 households, and 350 families residing in the city. The population density was 847.1 people per square mile (328.0/km²). There were 593 housing units at an average density of 437.9/sq mi (169.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.82% White, 1.05% Black or African American, 1.22% Native American, 0.09% Asian, and 1.83% from two or more races.
There were 509 households out of which 28.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.6% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% were non-families. 29.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
