Madison is located at 35°0′49″N 90°43′37″W / 35.01361, -90.72694 (35.013681, -90.726919).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.8 square miles (4.6 km²), of which, 1.7 square miles (4.4 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (3.93%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 987 people, 358 households, and 239 families residing in the city. The population density was 577.9 people per square mile (222.9/km²). There were 409 housing units at an average density of 239.5/sq mi (92.3/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 10.03% White, 88.96% Black or African American, 0.41% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. 0.81% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
