Gassville is located at 36°16′59″N 92°29′24″W / 36.28306, -92.49 (36.283160, -92.490124).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.4 square miles (8.9 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,706 people, 653 households, and 474 families residing in the city. The population density was 499.1 people per square mile (192.6/km²). There were 712 housing units at an average density of 208.3/sq mi (80.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.83% White, 0.18% Black or African American, 0.41% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. 1.17% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
