City Description

Egypt is a town in Craighead County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 101 at the 2000 census. It is included in the Jonesboro, Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area. Egypt is located at 35°52′3″N 90°56′43″W / 35.8675, -90.94528 (35.867472, -90.945372). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²), all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 101 people, 43 households, and 28 families residing in the town. The population density was 105.4/km² (274.5/mi²). There were 51 housing units at an average density of 53.2/km² (138.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.03% White, and 2.97% from two or more races. 0.99% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 43 households out of which 23.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% were married couples living together, 16.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.6% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
