Tree Braids in Little Rock Arkansas? Question: I don't mean to put Little Rock down, I mean I did choose to move here but my God! The things this place lacks frustrates me to no end. I have natural hair and can't seem to find one hairstylist in the whole city of Little Rock that works with natural hair. It's a sad sad state of affairs when black women have become so dependent on weaves and chemicals that they don't even know how to work with their own natural hair texture. But that's a whole nother topic.
So I've decided to just wear my hair braided until I get back to NYC or ATL to get a real hairstylist. So far I've found ONE shop in this whole city that does treebraids and of course, since they know they have a monopoly, they are charging an arm and a leg for something simple. Does anyone know of any other people in Little Rock who do tree braiding?
Answer:
go to Memphis

What should I wear to a spring wedding in Arkansas? Question: My fiance's best friend is getting married in Arkansas in April. My fiance is one of the groomsmen, which probably means that I may want to spend a little more on what I'm wearing because he'll be in a tux.
So, anyway, I'm looking for ideas. It seems like this spring's trend is black and white, but would that be okay for a wedding? I can't seem to find anything else in the stores. Floral prints are rampant too - are those acceptable?
Also, for more background, the ceremony is in a church in downtown Little Rock on a Saturday afternoon. The reception is in an adjoining hall.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Answer:
Hello. I live in Fayetteville (which is northwestern of Little Rock), but my boyfriend's and best friend's families both live in Little Rock and I accompany them on their family visits often. Some of the weddings there can be very formal and high society. The majority of the U.S.'s population is grossly uninformed of Arkansas' culture and class.
I agree with the person whom comment that you should find out the bridesmaid's dresses and also the bride's colors. You do not want to match the wedding unless you are going to be in the wedding. Also, confirm that it is formal. Wrap or tunic dresses in natural fibers in the $150 to $300 price range would work for just about any figure or spring wedding. Also, they are a great addition to any woman's wardrobe! I absolutely love them and they are very fashionable this spring! However, whatever you wear, do watch how much jewelry you put on. Nothing too large, complicated or tacky. Jewelry is essential to looking like a lady. Oh, and ya'll is most often spoken in a very sophisticated and classicly southern way. Do not snicker if you hear it being used for if you do, you will most certainly be made fun of. However, it's not as prominantly as you would think.
Anyhow, watch out for tacky patterns and florals. Try something more bold than pastel, stay away from lipstick reds, over-used metalics, and long sleeves unless you are cold blooded. April can be very tempermental and you should try to find something short-sleeved, cap-sleeved or sleeve-less and layer a shawl, balero jacket, wrap, or shrug (not the tie shruggs they are so tacky and three seasons ago!) over it.
Hair. Since it's inside you shouldn't really have to worry about wearing it up or down. However, if you have any curl to your hair the southern humidity will bring and frizz it out. So beware!
Last words of advice from an Arkansas native. Don't wear velvet, overly shiny material if you are rounder or vertical stripes if you are slimmer. Watch those hemlines! The shorter the skirt/dress the shorter the heel. Don't show too much cleavage! Don't wear all black. Remember an extra pair of panty hose, a few safety pins and your own hair products. Oh, and remember that this is the brides day and you are just there to celebrate it with her... not steal the show. Oh, but most of all remember to have fun and soak up the warm southern hospitality! It's a wonderful place to visit!!! Have fun and good luck!!!

Could you do what The Little Rock Nine and Ruby Bridges did? (this question is for ANYONE)? Question: Little Rock Nine-nine black kids integrated an all white high school in Arkansas
Ruby Brigdes-integrated an all white elementary school in New Orleans.
regardless of color, do you think you could go into a school (being the only one of your race) into a school of a whole other race?
im talking ruby bridges the little black girl who in 1960 entered an all white elementary school.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_Bridges
Answer:
I attended a school as one of four or five white kids, with the rest being almost exclusively Native American. I didn't know it was a big deal, and in truth, it wasn't so much. I did get my eyes opened in regard to a bit of racism (both ways), but I also got to know their culture and food ways and the like, and the experience of being immersed in a slightly different culture engendered a real thirst for more such experiences, and that thirst has served me quite well.

I want to sue comedian Chris Rock for using racial slurs against whites? Question: Recently a black tow truck driver was awarded $7500 when he sued a Arkansas police officer for using the "N" word and violating his civil rights.
Just last night I turned on the t.v and comedian Chris Rock was saying... cracker this honkey that.
Can I sue him? I bet he has alot more money than the police officer in Arkansas.
Just wondering is they are also MY civil rights as a white man?
The tow truck driver was not under arrest, he came to pick up a car broke down on the road and he incited a argument with two officers.
Answer:
There's a big difference between what a sworn peace officer can say on duty and what a stand up comic can say while on the stage.
In the game of racial politics blacks get away with much more than whites do. If you say black power you're cool if you say white power you're a hate mongering Nazi.
Even though black racism is just as bias and hate driven no politico has the stones to point it out.

Because he is a entertainer its ok?
What about Michael Richards "Kramer", look what happened to him. Why shouldnt it be the same for Chris Rock?
I dont really care what he says about his own people, its his comments about my people that offend me.
No white entertainer can use racial slurs against blacks, so why can black entertainers use slurs against whites?
Answer:
Go for it.

Does anyone remember the Pirate Radio Station that broadcast from Little Rock, AK in the late '60s early '70s? Question: It was "underground" hard rock music. Today its called Classic but bands like Led Zepplin, Deep Purple and Black Oak Arkansas were not considered mainstream, not suitable for AM radio, the media of the time. I lived in La Crosse,WI at that time and had to stay up late to catch the signal.
Answer:
Are you thinking of Beaker Street on KAAY in Little Rock. They used to play the stuff that never made the top 40 stations? As I recall - they were top 40 during the day ( with the Chicken Man) and heavy and underground at night. I spent a lot of nights staying up late to listen to Beaker Street. I can't think of any other stations powerful enough to be heard in WI and IA from Little Rock that played that kind of music.
