City DescriptionShonto (Navajo: Shą́ą́ʼtóhí) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Navajo County, Arizona, United States. The population was 568 at the 2000 census.
Shonto is located at 36°35′54″N 110°39′29″W / 36.59833, -110.65806 (36.598209, -110.658156).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.6 square miles (11.8 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 568 people, 149 households, and 118 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 124.3 people per square mile (48.0/km²). There were 220 housing units at an average density of 48.2/sq mi (18.6/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 1.94% White, 0.18% Black or African American, 96.30% Native American, and 1.58% from two or more races. 1.06% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 149 households out of which 52.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.7% were married couples living together, 19.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.8% were non-families. 18.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
