City DescriptionPatagonia is a town in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, United States. According to 2006 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the town is 825. Patagonia was formerly a supply center for nearby mines and ranches. Currently, it is a tourist destination, retirement community and arts & crafts center. National and state authorities have recognized Patagonia Union High School as one of the best schools in the state. The Nature Conservancy's Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve is adjacent.
Patagonia is located at 31°32′30″N 110°45′12″W / 31.54167, -110.75333 (31.541743, -110.753428).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 881 people, 404 households, and 239 families residing in the town. The population density was 738.7 people per square mile (285.8/km²). There were 498 housing units at an average density of 417.5/sq mi (161.6/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 86.49% White, 0.91% Native American, 0.45% Asian, 10.56% from other races, and 1.59% from two or more races. 39.50% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
