City DescriptionElgin is a census-designated place (CDP) in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, United States. The population was 309 at the 2000 census.
Elgin is located at 31°37′45″N 110°34′19″W / 31.62917, -110.57194 (31.629095, -110.571951).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 48.5 square miles (125.6 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 309 people, 123 households, and 86 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 6.4 people per square mile (2.5/km²). There were 153 housing units at an average density of 3.2/sq mi (1.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 91.59% White, 2.91% Native American, 3.24% from other races, and 2.27% from two or more races. 13.59% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 123 households out of which 28.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.2% were married couples living together, 4.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.3% were non-families. 24.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.00.
