Is Douglas, Arizona, a nice place to live? Question: Are there many things to do there or over the border in Mexico? Does it suffer from any drug/gang crime as there is in Laredo? Also, I assume the decent-sized closest airport is in Tucson.
Answer:
Having lived in Douglas 5 years, I have to say it was a FINE place to live . It is a very small town and because it is close to the border, can have a lot MORE people in it at any given time because of the populace that comes from Aqua Prieta to shop.
If you are white, you will definitely be in the minority, but if you can handle that, it is a quite little town, that has grown because of the nearness to the Prison there, which now employes ALOT of the folk who live in Douglas and the surround..

Driving directions from Guanajuato to Las Vegas? Question: I need to drive from Guanajuato, Mexico, to Las Vegas, NV. All of the route-planning websites suggest I first drive straight north to Texas (either Eagle Pass, Del Rio, or Laredo) and then head west. Looking at maps, though, it appears a much shorter route would be to head more northwest, through Chihuahua and Nuevo Casas Grandes, and then cross the border at Douglas, Arizona. I would appreciate any suggestions as to the pros and cons of this route.
Answer:
See site below. Add a few hours to the time it allows. As you may already know, driving in Mexico always takes longer than planned.

How Ironic is this? Should Mexico be complaining? Question: Mexico's Congress has condemned what it says is a border violation by US workers building a controversial barrier between the two countries.
Legislators say workers and equipment building a section of the barrier have gone 10 metres (yards) into Mexico.
The alleged border violation comes ahead of a high-level meeting in the Canadian capital Ottawa.
US, Mexican and Canadian foreign ministers are to discuss border security and trade issues.
Mexican legislators said they had photographs and video, taken on Monday, of the workers and heavy-duty construction equipment that showed them about 10 metres inside Mexico near the border city of Agua Prieta and the town of Douglas, Arizona.
The Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa said she had complained to the US authorities and that the men and equipment had been withdrawn.
Continental trade concerns
In a statement, the US Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza said: "The US is sensitive to Mexican concerns... [and] has the deepest respect for the integrity of the sovereignty of Mexican soil".
He said US Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff had not been in the area of the alleged incursion and recent photographs of him welding a section of the fence had been taken in a different part of Arizona on the US side of the border.
The US says it is building 700 miles (1,125km) of fencing along its border with Mexico to stop illegal immigration.
Many Mexicans see the fence as offensive and say it will be ineffective and potentially cause more deaths in border crossings.
An estimated 1.2 million illegal immigrants were arrested in 2005 trying to cross into the US via the border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.
About 11 million Mexicans are thought to live in the US, more than six million of them illegally.
Later on Friday, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is meeting her Canadian and Mexican counterparts - Peter Mackay and Patricia Espinosa - in Ottawa.
They are to discuss concerns that security measures put in place after the 11 September 2001 attacks on the US may hamper trade between the three countries.
The officials will also look at co-ordinating responses to emergencies such as a pandemic outbreak of avian flu.

Answer:
It just proves how much we need the fence, for the sake of the countries on BOTH sides.
I take it they will be supporting the fence, now?

What are your thoughts Mexico sends diplomatic note to U.S. over alleged border incursion [to fight a fire!]? Question: MEXICO CITY — Mexico has sent a diplomatic note to the United States objecting to an alleged incursion into Mexican territory by U.S. Border Patrol agents trying to extinguish a fire, the country's Foreign Relations Department said Tuesday.
The incursion allegedly took place on Monday, as Border Patrol agents stationed in Sonoita, Arizona, were trying to quash a brush fire on the U.S. side that quickly spread into Mexico, the department said.
The Foreign Relations Department said it was notified of the incident on Tuesday by the U.S. Embassy in Mexico, which reported that the border agents immediately returned to their side of the border after the fire was out.
The Embassy did not release a public statement Tuesday.
"The Foreign Relations Department has expressed to the U.S. Embassy via a diplomatic note, its rejection of the incursion," the Mexican government's news release said.
"While the department recognizes that the incursion may have been a response to an attempt to deal with an emergency, as the U.S. Embassy states, it has reiterated ... that even during emergency situations, it is required, without exception, to immediately notify the Mexican authorities."
The complaint comes on the heels of another alleged border incursion late last month, when U.S. workers erecting border fences between Douglas, Arizona, and the Mexican border city of Agua Prieta, allegedly crossed about 10 meters (yards) into Mexico.
At that time, U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza issued a statement promising to look into the incident and asserting that the United States "has the deepest respect for the integrity of the sovereignty of Mexican soil and for the importance of the border shared by our two countries."

It wont be too long before things get so bad between the US and Mexico that we wont be building a wall, we'll be deploying the 3rd Infantry along the border?
Answer:
Mexico can stick it's note!! If we sent them a note every time one of their citizens crossed over to U.S. soil, they would be smothered. At least we came back to our side, we didn't close their hospitals, suck up their social assistance, smuggle in drugs, crowd their schools, steal their identities, take their jobs, etc, etc, etc! I am glad they didn't want to imprison them in a Mexican jail, I'm sure U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton would have handed them over.

Answer:
The Republicans are to be held to a higher degree of "BEHAVIOR "standards, because they are the party that supposedly represents the Moral Majority. They can't help it if Craig and Foley kiss coronas, polish knobs, and adore Hiney Sex in public toilets. Remember this........your tax dollars are paying for their condoms and mouthwash. Here in PA, we did not vote for Bush .

Is it about time this came out? Some Jehovah's Witnesses want more than to leave Watchtowers ? Question: Towns where Alleged Jehovah's Witness Child molesters have been reported to silentlambs
Home
Listed by each state
If you would to add a new listing contact silentlambs at info@silentlambs.org
The list below is designed to alert you to a possible danger in your community. Over the course of the last four years silentlambs has been a repository of reports on alleged Jehovah's Witness child molesters. Victims have reported extensively on times, dates and places abuse occurred. We have wrestled with how to alert the public as well as members that may be in congregations where abusers have been reported.
We offer the following suggestions if you as a Jehovah's Witness are in a town/congregation where a report has been made.
Do not allow your children to be alone with anyone in the congregation.
Escort your children to the bathroom during meetings and make sure no else is with them when using facilities.
Never allow your children to be alone in the car with anyone while in field service.
Do not allow any member to study with your child alone.
Avoid camping trips in which children go as a group with one or two adults.
Avoid baby sitters that are adult males.
At a get together watch your children and keep them in sight at all times.
Ask elders directly if they know of any abusers in your congregation, use specific names and note their reaction. They will not tell you directly but indirectly you can often figure out who it is. If one elder is less cooperative talk to another till you find out enough information to know the facts.
Check the local sex offender list in your area, type in the name of every person in your congregation to see if any are listed.
Notice any male member of the congregation that does not have privileges such as microphone or other duties around the congregation, especially if for a long period of time. They can offer talks on the TMS or sermons Service Meeting but are not allowed to conduct meetings. (This is only in case of a confessed child molester)
Note any member of the congregation that has children with sever rebellion or emotional problems.
Do not allow your children to have sleepovers with anyone.
Note members that the elders avoid having around their children.
If you are a member of the public and your community is on the list take the following steps to protect your family.
If Jehovah's Witnesses call at your home never allow them in your home
If you do not wish Jehovah's Witnesses to call at your home purchase a no trespassing sign and place it near your door. JW's are instructing to only respect "no trespassing" signs any other variation will be ignored.
If you do not wish Jehovah's Witnesses to call you can also call the local number and ask to be placed on the "do not call" list. They will note your home and check about once a year to make sure you wish to remain on the list.
If you choose to study with Jehovah's Witnesses do so at a neutral location such as the local Kingdom Hall or in a public place.
Never allow your child to be alone with members or their children.
If you choose to attend meetings with Jehovah's Witnesses then we suggest you follow the guidelines above for members.
Remember that most members are not aware of who the molesters are in their congregation according to church policy. They do not know.
If two Jehovah's Witnesses call at your door one could be a child molester. According to church guidelines all confessed child molesters are required to have a partner when going door to door. If two Jehovah's Witnesses appear at your door you might wish to ask if one or both are child molesters for peace of mind. Of course keep in mind if the person is an accused child molester they are allowed to work alone in the door to door work.
We hope this information is helpful and assists with the ultimate goal of silentlambs, protecting children. Check back as the list is updated on a regular basis.

Rules waived to add security along 220 miles of AZ border

advertisementThe Department of Homeland Security laid claim Tuesday to at least 220 of the 350 miles of U.S.-Mexican border in Arizona to build fences, roads and towers without having to comply with environmental regulations.
A congressionally mandated deadline to have 670 miles of fences, barriers, roads and lighting along the U.S.-Mexico border in place by the end of the year drove Secretary Michael Chertoff to invoke the waiver. To date, the agency has completed 309 miles of projects, leaving it with 361 miles to complete in nine months.
What Tuesday's order does, Chertoff said, is ensure that the rest of what is necessary can be built without having to complete full-blown environmental-impact statements — and without fearing that one or more sections will become tied up in court.
The announcement, however, was greeted by disdain from local environmental-protection groups and a pair of Arizona legislators.
"I think every American should be up in arms that the federal government is waiving these laws," said Sean Sullivan, co-chairman of the Sierra Club Rincon Group, which covers Southeastern Arizona. "They are just going to bulldoze ahead in order to get all the projects they had lined up completed."
The waiver encompasses nearly two-thirds of Arizona's international border, including swaths of land from as far west as Yuma to near the Arizona-New Mexico state line. Some of the larger expanses revealed by Homeland Security include:
● More than 60 miles stretching from about seven miles east of Sasabe to south of Fort Huachuca in Cochise County.
● More than 55 miles on the Tohono O'odham Reservation, from just east of the village of Ali Ak Chin to near Sasabe.
● More than 50 miles across the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge west of Lukeville.
● More than 20 miles from east of Douglas to near the Arizona-New Mexico state line.
In total, Homeland Security identified 13 areas in Arizona. The detailed plans — or what's already under construction or has been completed — for each of the areas weren't available Tuesday. None is a new project, said Amy Kudwa, Homeland Security spokeswoman.
"We are simply moving forward with their expeditious construction," Kudwa said.
The projects will fall under the general category of "pedestrian and vehicle fence construction, towers, sensors, cameras, detection equipment and roads in the vicinity of the border," Homeland Security said.
It's the fourth time Chertoff has used the waiver, created in the 2005 Real ID Act to waive compliance with federal regulations for all border projects. He invoked the waiver on the previous three occasions for individual projects: in October 2007 for construction of two miles of fencing in the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area in Southeastern Arizona; in January 2007 on the Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range in Southwestern Arizona; and in 2005 in San Diego.
Each use has elicited harsh criticism from environmentalists and critics who say no one person should have such overreaching power.
Chertoff's use of that 2005 waiver authority "has created a lawless border," said Matt Clark, Southwest representative of Defenders of Wildlife.
The waiver continues a pattern of neglecting important environmental, health and safety laws to build an ineffective and environmentally damaging border wall, Clark said.
"That arbitrary deadline has resulted in lawlessness along the border and a disregard for environmental health and safety laws," he said.
In a statement, U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., called the use of the waiver "outrageous," saying neither her office nor local or state elected officials were consulted.
"This is unacceptable," Giffords said. "A federal government construction project of this magnitude will impact significantly on local residents, communities and the environment. Those of us who live on the border and represent border communities deserve a seat at the table."
U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz., called such a broad and poorly conceived waiver lazy.
"Secretary Chertoff is abusing the authority granted him by the Congress with this ham-handed waiver," Grijalva said in a statement. "With the stroke of his pen, he overturns 36 laws — some of which have been protecting our resources and our health for more than a century — in an area stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean."
In a prepared statement Tuesday, Chertoff said his actions are justified.
"The flow of illegal traffic through the border region imperils our ability to fight terrorism by stopping the illegal entry of terrorists, and exposes our border communities and the rest of the United States to the ill effects of drug smuggling, human smuggling and gang activity," he said. "Illegal border traffic has also caused severe and profound impacts to the environment."
Invoking the waiver will prevent legal wrangling that could delay projects, he said. That's exactly what happened last year when two environmental groups sought to halt construction of fences and vehicle barriers along the southern edge of the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area. Challengers said federal officials did not properly consider ways to minimize the impact of the new construction.
Chertoff eventually invoked the waiver, and construction continued.
Chertoff denied that environmental concerns are being ignored. He said that there is at least a "draft environmental assessment or environmental impact statement" for all of the miles where his agency is erecting new pedestrian fencing. And he said most of the other projects — aside from fences to keep pedestrians out — also will have those kinds of assessments.
Answer:
All we have to do to stop illegal immigration and the crossing of illegal drugs into our country is to built the WALL and deport everybody that is illegal.
