What Arizona city is the best place to live and raise kids? and how is it to live there? Question: We are having a dilema if to move to Arizona or Nevada from Seattle where is rains too much. Help?
Answer:
Depends what you are looking for...there are lots of places in AZ that seem safer than others. Most of the cities are pretty big like Mesa, Tempe, Gilbert, Chandler. Gilbert and East Mesa are growing pretty rapidly so there are newer houses, stores, schools, etc... I like all of those school districts mentioned above as well. You just have to do your research on the newer and safer communities. Being a native, I love AZ and think its a wonderful place to live. Get out of the rain and head out here to the sunshine! Best of luck!

What is the history of the Tuba City Boarding School on Tuba City, Arizona? Question: Tuba City is in the Painted Desert of Arizona. The population is only about 6,900. The school was built in 1898 but a new school is currently under construction.
The school is the largest BIA (Burea of Indian Affairs) school in the country. Over 1,000 students go to school there also. A Big majority of the students are Navajo (Navaho)
Answer:
The following brief history of the school is summarized from the book "Native Roads: The Complete Motoring Guide to the Navajo and Hopi Nations" by Fran Kosik.
The BIA Tuba City Boarding School was founded in 1905 (the original Mormon settlers in the area had been forced to move the year before). The original buildings (many of which still stand) were made of sandstone blocks that were quarried out of nearby Moenkopi Wash by Navajo and Hopi stone masons. The school was designed to be self-sufficient with its own bakery, farm, and laundry.
The original school could handle 75 students and followed the directive of those days of trying to assimilate the children into main stream anglos society by forcing them to wear uniforms and punishing them for speaking their own language or taking part in traditional religious ceremonies. Students spent a half day in lessons and a half-day doing labor on the farm or workshops.
Things improved with the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 and the Meriam Report of 1928 which showed more respect for Native American cultures and began to replace boarding schools (where students lived permanently) with day schools. The school has consistently grown and improved over the years due to Tuba City being one of the largest towns on the Navajo Reservation.
Note that Tuba City was actually named for a Hopi chief (Tuuvi). The Navajo originally called the area 'tonaneesdizi' meaning 'many springs' or 'tangled water' after the numerous springs in the area. It is right on the border between Navajo and Hopi lands. Mormons founded a small farming settlement here in 1878, but it was never successful and the few that hung-on were forced to move (due to being on the reservation) in 1904.
Note that the town is located a little to the southeast of Page and Lake Powell off US89A in an area that is sometimes called the 'Badlands of the Painted Desert' (for the colorful rock formations), but it is a long way from the famous Painted Desert National Park (which is about 100 miles to the southeast along I-40 near Winslow).

What is the most family friendly city in Arizona to move to? Question: I am looking to move to Arizona with my wife and young daughter and am looking for a great city to live in (work, entertainment, great schools, safe, etc). I want to be within 45 minutes of Scottsdale. We are from a mid-sized Minnesota town, so places that would fit our lifestyle would be great.
Answer:
I live in Tempe, Arizona which incidentally is pretty close to Scottsdale, less than 45 minutes away. I always recommend where I live since I have lived in the area my entire life and I absolutely love it. There are a large number of places to work that aren't very far away, there's great entertainment including Mill Avenue, basketball, baseball, ASU, restaurants, malls, you name it we've got it. Overall I would say what's great about the Phoenix area is it is a large city and so are the surrounding cities but it doesn't really feel that way. It is completely safe and the neighborhoods are very safe and have a lot of families so your daughter would be able to find lots of friends.
Overall Tempe is my pick for you and since the housing prices are going down you might be able to get a good deal on a house here, usually in the Tempe area houses are pretty pricey.
Other great alternatives are Mesa, Chandler, or Gilbert. These are great cities too and are pretty close to everything as well so if you can't find something in Tempe, try finding something there. With the freeways, getting to Scottsdale or downtown Phoenix will take you 30 minutes or less, but beware of rush hour traffic later in the afternoon.
I hope this helps you!

I want somewhere with cultural/ethnic diversity & acceptance, good schools, decent job market, reasonable cost of living, and a sense of community.

The outskirts of Phoenix, like Tempe, Mesa would be good for your family. Flagstaff is a small tourist city w/too many people and limited jobs. Living conditions good if you can afford it. Lots of data at the link below. Good luck..

what is the best way to ship car from Arizona to Panama City? Question: I would like to have my small truck here in Panama but would like to know the best way to ship it here. I do not want to drive the long distance from Arizona to Panama City.
Answer:
I know you can ship it to Costa Rica, (San Diego or Ensenada would probably be the closest ports to AZ) but I don't think it is possible to get it to Panama by boat.I have driven from Tijuana,MX. to Panama City (3000mi.+/-) on a couple of occasions and believe it would be less expensive to ship it by boat to Costa Rica where you could pick it up and drive it to your final destination in Panama.See link below for more information.(One of several companies that ship cars by boat.)
The most important thing you can do now is to check Panama's three R's, Rules,Regulations and Restrictions. Every country is different.Make sure you can 'legally' import your vehicle to Panama.I would also encourage you to talk to a respected mechanic to insure that parts are readily available for your truck in Panama so you wont be 'truckless' while waiting for parts to be shipped from the U.S.

what do you think of Bullhead City, Arizona? Question: Is it a nice city to live in?
Thank you in advance.
Answer:
Bullhead City, Arizona is on the Colorado River, and the Nevada border directly across the river from Laughlin, Nevada. The Lake Mead Recreational area is just to the north. It is a small town. and has a touristy atmosphere. It becomes VERY crowded on summer weekends by Californians coming to "the River". Laughlin, Nevada was built on gambling Casinos. The London Bridge connects the two cities. You also asked about Yuma. If you like living in a town that has a party atmosphere, is hot in the summer, and very crowded Bullhead City is for you, but if you would prefer a nice little lazy desert town then Yuma is the best choice. I would prefer Yuma personally.

Why does Colorado City, Arizona still exist? Question: The Texas crackdown on the polygamist compound in Texas brought this abomination to light (again) recently. Why are there no similar actions in Arizona? Why can't McCain pressure his governor to take action against these child molesting Mormon perverts?
wow.. thanks for the insight.
but there is child abuse going on there.. there has to be a way to spy on them and bust the perverts.
Answer:
Actually, Colorado City is alive and well and still has a substantial population.
There actually have been several recent criminal cases brought against Colorado City or individual in it related to statuatory rape and welfare and tax issues.
However, large scale movements against the entire community (as occurred recently in Texas) have not happened recently in Arizona or Utah for a variety of reasons:
1 - the community is located in a remote section of Arizona, cut off from most of the state by the Grand Canyon. Probably not 1 in 100 Arizona citizens have ever come within 25 miles of the place. Out of Sight, Out of Mind.
2 - Many members of the community have been raised there from birth and have been taught to not to question the leaders and to avoid outsiders and outside news and information. As a result, it is very very hard to gather evidence and get testimony since you can rarely get any witnesses from the people involved.
3- Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, in the 1950s, there was in fact, a huge raid on the neighboring polygamist community of Short Creek done by Arizona and Utah combined officials. Children of polygamist families were taken from their parents and a large number of members were thrown in jail. However, it became a major fiasco because lack of testimony and witnesses resulted in few charges sticking and media depictions of crying children being dragged from their parents resulted in a public outcry. Many Arizona officials who had been involved - including Arizona governor John Pyle - ended up losing their jobs or quickly getting voted out as a result of it.
Ever since then, officials in Arizona and Utah have tended to avoid the issue or handle it very delicately.
