Date & Time2010-09-07 13:00:00 LocationAnchorage, Alaska, United States Address, Anchorage, Alaska Description This is a meetup for those of us who can meet in the early afternoon in the weekdays for an easy hike/stroll. I'm going to change locations and that means also the level of ease. Some hikes will be in town like in a park or a neighborhood, where I bring my stroller and where I or you can just stop or turn around if my little guy or your little one need a pit stop. Other hikes will be baby carriers only in "bear country" like the Prospect Height on the Hillside (of course we can always meet wild animals) where we need to be more accommodating of each other and our little ones. Should anyone feel like to offer up your house for a coffee and cake get-together after the walk, we could walk your neighborhood as that week's walk - and I'm always happy to bake a cake or pie! To find me at a parking lot you look for a white VW Touareg, blue ergo carrier and/or red stroller. This time we go close to Flattop. We will not take the Blueberry Loop but hike the Powerline Trail for app. 45 min back and forth. STROLLER FRIENDLY - BEAR COUNTRY

Date & Time2010-09-07 18:00:00 LocationAnchorage, Alaska, United States Address, Anchorage, Alaska Description WHAT: Heart 'n Lunger Hike - Bird Ridge The heart 'n Lung hikes will be every Tuesday evening April - September. We have done them every year since 2007. H n L hikes, by our definition, gain at least 1500' of elevation. Many of them will offer 2x that elevation gain for the uber-fit among us. At the other end of the fitness spectrum, the less fit in the group have good naturedly dubbed their sub-group the 'Gaspers 'n Wheezers'. Everyone is welcome on many of these hikes since most often they are 'out and back-- there is no getting lost or getting left behind like that. WHEN/WHERE: Meet at 6 PM in the HUGE Bird Creek parking lot just before actually crossing Bird Creek. Plan to be out as long as you choose or until you reach the 3200' high point of the ridge that is often taken to be the 'summit'. BRING: -- Ski/ trekking poles (optional but very helpful on the steeps and on rocky, slippery or icy areas) -- Wind shell and wind pants -- Dress in non-cotton layers so you can shed or add clothes as temps change -- Water & trail snacks -- Headlamp DOGS: Yes but they need to be sure footed and not hesitant about varied and changing terrain. COST: $5 parking fee to AK State Parks if you do not have an annual parking pass. Passes are available at REI or AMH for $40/year. CARPOOLING: Meet between 5:30 - 5:35; leave at 5:40 PM from the the Chugach State Parks HQ building (old railroad section house parking lot) about 1/4 mile past far end of Potter Marsh.
