Tarrant is located at 33°35′15″N 86°45′58″W / 33.5875, -86.76611 (33.587546, -86.766219).
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.4 square miles (16.5 km²), of which, 6.4 square miles (16.5 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.63%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 7,022 people, 2,896 households, and 1,922 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,104.7 people per square mile (426.3/km²). There were 3,277 housing units at an average density of 515.5/sq mi (198.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 79.14% White, 18.73% Black or African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.84% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races. 1.71% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 2,896 households out of which 28.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.5% were married couples living together, 17.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.6% were non-families. 29.7% of all households were made up of ...
