Snead is located at 34°6'57.492" North, 86°23'29.443" West (34.115970, -86.391512).
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 5.5 square miles (14.1 km²), of which, 5.4 square miles (14.1 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.37%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 748 people, 342 households, and 219 families residing in the town. The population density was 137.5 people per square mile (53.1/km²). There were 388 housing units at an average density of 71.3/sq mi (27.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.47% White, 0.27% Asian, and 0.27% from two or more races. 0.53% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 342 households out of which 21.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.8% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.7% were non-families. 33.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
