City Description

Rockford is a town in Coosa County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 428. The town is the county seat of Coosa County. Rockford is part of the Alexander City Micropolitan Statistical Area. Rockford is located at 32°53′17″N 86°13′10″W / 32.88806, -86.21944 (32.888181, -86.219575). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.3 square miles (8.6 km²), of which, 3.3 square miles (8.5 km²) of it is land and 0.30% is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 428 people, 189 households, and 113 families residing in the town. The population density was 129.6 people per square mile (50.1/km²). There were 226 housing units at an average density of 68.5/sq mi (26.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 65.65% White, 32.48% Black or African American, 0.23% Pacific Islander, and 1.64% from two or more races. 1.17% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 189 households out of which 32.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 34.9% were married couples living together, 19.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.2% were non-families. 38.6% of all households were made up of
