City DescriptionPaint Rock is a town in Jackson County, Alabama, United States, along the Paint Rock River, and is included in the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 185.
This was the location where the Scottsboro Boys were arrested.
Paint Rock is located at 34°39′37″N 86°19′41″W / 34.66028, -86.32806 (34.660172, -86.328018).
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.1 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 185 people, 81 households, and 57 families residing in the town. The population density was 415.9 people per square mile (162.3/km²). There were 94 housing units at an average density of 211.3/sq mi (82.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.76% White, 0.54% Native American, and 2.70% from two or more races.
There were 81 households out of which 27.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% were married couples living together, 11.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.6% were non-families. 29.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
