City Description

Onycha is a town in Covington County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 208. Onycha is located at 31°13′17″N 86°16′40″W / 31.22139, -86.27778 (31.221515, -86.277694). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2.2 km²), of which, 0.8 square miles (2.2 km²) of it is land and 1.19% is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 208 people, 96 households, and 64 families residing in the town. The population density was 249.1 people per square mile (95.6/km²). There were 113 housing units at an average density of 135.3/sq mi (51.9/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.04% White and 0.96% Native American. 0.48% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 96 households out of which 19.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.3% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% were non-families. 32.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
