City Description

North Johns is a town in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 142. North Johns is located at 33°22′1″N 87°6′5″W / 33.36694, -87.10139 (33.366880, -87.101486). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.5 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 142 people, 51 households, and 37 families residing in the town. The population density was 732.3 people per square mile (288.6/km²). There were 56 housing units at an average density of 288.8/sq mi (113.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 40.14% White, 59.15% Black or African American and 0.70% Native American. There were 51 households out of which 29.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.1% were married couples living together, 17.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.5% were non-families. 21.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
