City Description

Nectar is a town in Blount County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 372. Nectar is located at 33°58'8.846" North, 86°38'10.522" West (33.969124, -86.636256). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.8 square miles (4.7 km²), of which, 1.8 square miles (4.7 km²) of it is land and 0.55% is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 372 people, 141 households, and 110 families residing in the town. The population density was 204.8 people per square mile (78.9/km²). There were 158 housing units at an average density of 87.0/sq mi (33.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.31% White, 1.88% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. 2.69% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 141 households out of which 39.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.8% were married couples living together, 7.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.3% were non-families. 19.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
