Moody is located at 33°35′33″N 86°29′47″W / 33.5925, -86.49639 (33.592469, -86.496369).
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 24.0 square miles (62.2 km²), of which, 23.9 square miles (61.9 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.4 km²) of it (0.58%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 8,053 people, 3,126 households, and 2,341 families residing in the town. The population density was 337.1 people per square mile (130.1/km²). There were 3,317 housing units at an average density of 138.8/sq mi (53.6/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 94.09% White, 3.81% [[Race (United States Census)African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.37% from other races, and 1.08% from two or more races. 1.09% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
