Brent is located at 32°56'24.864" North, 87°10'29.935" West (32.940240, -87.174982).
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.7 square miles (22.6 km²), of which, 8.7 square miles (22.6 km²) of it is land and 0.11% is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 4,024 people, 1,150 households, and 779 families residing in the city. The population density was 461.4 people per square mile (178.2/km²). There were 1,274 housing units at an average density of 146.1/sq mi (56.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 48.93% White, 50.02% Black or African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.50% from other races, and 0.27% from two or more races. 0.97% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 20,000 households out of which 34.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 20.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 29.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
