City Description

Babbie is a town in Covington County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 627. According to the 2005 U.S. Census estimates, the town had a population of 626. Babbie is located at 31°18′2″N 86°19′9″W / 31.30056°N 86.31917°W / 31.30056; -86.31917 (31.300460, -86.319293). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 11.6 square miles (30.0 km²), of which, 11.5 square miles (29.9 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (0.52%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 627 people, 258 households, and 192 families residing in the town. The population density was 54.3 people per square mile (21.0/km²). There were 284 housing units at an average density of 24.6/sq mi (9.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.88% White, 0.16% Black or African American, 0.32% Asian, 0.16% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. There were 258 households out of which 29.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.0% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.2% were non-families. 23.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.8% had someone
