    Alexandria is an unincorporated census-designated place in Calhoun County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 3,692. It is included in the Anniston-Oxford, Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area. Alexandria is located at 33°45′57″N 85°53′3″W / 33.76583°N 85.88417°W / 33.76583; -85.88417 (33.766072, -85.884389). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 11.1 square miles (28.7 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 3,692 people, 1,397 households, and 1,082 families residing in Alexandria. The population density was 332.8 people per square mile (128.4/km²). There were 1,467 housing units at an average density of 132.2/sq mi (51.0/km²). The racial makeup of the community was 88.43% White, 9.75% Black or African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.60% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 0.60% from two or more races. 0.65% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
